Overview

About OGB steel structures

OGB supplies a focused range of structural steel sections and profiles used in building frames, mezzanines, sheds, supports, platforms and general steel fabrication. The range covers hot-rolled beams, hollow sections, circular tubes, channels and angles.

Sections are supplied against project schedules and fabrication requirements. Sizes, grades and lengths are confirmed at quotation stage so that every supply matches the drawing, the specification and the site programme.

Questions

Steel Structures: common questions

What is the difference between an I-beam and a U-channel?

An I-beam (IPE) has two flanges joined by a central web and is efficient for bending loads over spans, such as floor and roof beams. A U-channel (UPN) has flanges on one side only, giving a flat back that is easy to fix to walls and frames, so it is used for trimmers, edge members and bracing. The correct choice depends on the structural design.

Which steel sections are used for a steel shed or warehouse frame?

A typical steel shed uses I-beams or hollow sections for columns and rafters, hollow sections or channels for purlins and girts, and angles for bracing and connections. The exact sections are defined by the structural engineer for each project.

Can OGB supply steel sections in specific sizes or grades?

Sizes, grades and lengths are confirmed per enquiry. Share your drawing, bill of quantities or a list of required sections and OGB will confirm availability and quote accordingly.
