Product overview

Steel Grating (GI Bar Grating): overview and uses

Steel bar grating is an open floor panel made of parallel flat bearing bars welded to twisted cross bars at fixed spacing. Hot-dip galvanized (GI) grating is the standard choice for platforms, walkways and drain covers in the UAE.

Grating lets light, air and water pass through while carrying foot and vehicle loads. The size is described by the bearing bar (for example 30 × 3 mm, meaning 30 mm deep and 3 mm thick) and the pitch between bars (for example 30 × 100 mm).

Panels are welded, then hot-dip galvanized after fabrication so every bar and weld is coated. A serrated top edge adds grip on wet or oily floors.

Questions

Steel Grating (GI Bar Grating): common questions

What does 30 × 3 or 30 × 100 mean on a grating?

30 × 3 is the bearing bar: 30 mm deep and 3 mm thick. 30 × 100 is the pitch: bearing bars every 30 mm and cross bars every 100 mm.

Plain or serrated grating?

Plain grating suits dry indoor areas. Serrated grating has notched top edges for better grip and is used on wet, oily or sloped walkways and stairs.

How do I choose the bearing bar size?

It depends on the clear span and the load. Deeper bars carry more over longer spans. Share the span and use (foot traffic or vehicles) and the bar size will be confirmed from the load tables.
