Product overview

Welded Wire Mesh (BRC & GI Mesh): overview and uses

Welded wire mesh is a grid of steel wires welded at every crossing. Heavy BRC mesh to BS 4483 reinforces concrete slabs, while light galvanized (GI) welded mesh in rolls is used for fencing, enclosures and blockwork.

BRC mesh comes in flat sheets with 200 × 200 mm squares. The type number tells you the steel area: A142 uses 6 mm wire for light slabs, while A193, A252 and A393 use thicker wire for heavier floors.

Light GI welded mesh is made from thin galvanized wire in small apertures and sold in rolls. It is used for animal and garden enclosures, guards, plaster and blockwork reinforcement.

Questions

Welded Wire Mesh (BRC & GI Mesh): common questions

Which BRC mesh do I need for a villa slab?

A142 is commonly used for light slabs and screeds, and A193 or A252 for heavier floors. Always follow the structural drawing, which states the mesh type.

What is the difference between BRC mesh and GI welded mesh?

BRC mesh is heavy reinforcing mesh in flat sheets for concrete. GI welded mesh is light galvanized wire in rolls, used for fencing, guards and blockwork, not for structural slabs.
