Product overview

T-Sections (Steel Tees): overview and uses

A steel T-section, or tee, is a hot-rolled bar shaped like the letter T: a flat flange with a stem at right angles from its centre. Equal-flange tees to EN 10055 have the same height and flange width, for example T50 × 50 × 6.

T-sections combine a flat bearing face with a stiffening stem, which makes them useful wherever a panel, glass or shelf has to sit on a frame. They are rolled with slightly rounded roots and toes and are easy to cut, drill and weld.

OGB supplies equal-flange tees in the common fabrication sizes. Sizes are written height × flange × thickness, so T50 × 50 × 6 is 50 mm high, 50 mm wide and 6 mm thick.

Questions

T-Sections (Steel Tees): common questions

What does T50 × 50 × 6 mean?

It is a tee 50 mm high with a 50 mm wide flange and 6 mm thickness. Equal-flange tees have the same height and flange width.

Is a tee cut from an I-beam the same as an EN 10055 tee?

No. A cut tee is made by splitting a beam and is used for larger sizes. EN 10055 tees are rolled directly as T-sections in smaller sizes, with standard dimensions and tolerances.
