Product overview

Stainless Steel Sheets: overview and uses

Stainless steel sheet is flat-rolled stainless steel, mostly cold-rolled, up to about 6 mm thick, made to ASTM A240 or EN 10088-2. Grades 304 and 316L are the most common, in finishes such as 2B, BA, No.4 brushed and mirror.

Stainless sheet is chosen where hygiene, appearance and corrosion resistance matter: kitchens, food plants, lift and shop fronts, cladding and tanks. The finish changes both the look and the use. 2B is the standard smooth mill finish, No.4 is a brushed satin grain, and BA or mirror finishes are highly reflective.

Sheets are normally supplied with a protective PE film on the finished face. For UAE coastal and poolside work, 316L gives better resistance to salt than 304.

Questions

Stainless Steel Sheets: common questions

What is the difference between 2B, BA, No.4 and mirror finish?

2B is the standard smooth, softly reflective mill finish. BA is bright annealed and nearly mirror-like. No.4 is brushed with fine parallel lines. Mirror (No.8) is polished after rolling to a full reflective shine.

Should I use 304 or 316L?

Use 316L for coastal, poolside or chemical exposure, because it resists pitting from chlorides. 304 suits indoor kitchens, equipment and general work.
