Chain-link wire and mesh rules of thumb
2.0 – 2.5 mm wire suits homes and gardens, 3.0 – 3.5 mm suits commercial and industrial boundaries, and 4.0 mm and above is used on high security sites. A smaller mesh (25 – 40 mm) is harder to climb and cut; 50 mm is the economical standard. Intermediate posts go at 2.5 – 3.0 m centres, with straining posts and struts at ends, corners and every 60 – 70 m.
