Product overview

Cold Room Wall Panels: overview and uses

Cold room wall panels are high-insulation sandwich panels designed to form the walls of chiller rooms, freezer rooms and cold stores. A PU/PIR core and tight tongue-and-groove or cam-lock joints minimise thermal bridging and keep the internal temperature stable.

Facings are typically food-safe coated steel. OGB confirms panel thickness according to the design temperature of the room, along with corner and base accessories.

Build your panel

Choose core, thickness and colour

Pick a combination to see its insulation value, then send it to OGB as a quotation request. Every panel is made to order and cut to your length.

1 · Core
2 · Thickness
3 · Outer colour

Cold rooms are usually finished in white or light grey inside so that cleanliness is easy to see. Colours shown are the common stock RAL shades; other RAL colours, PVDF coatings and different inner/outer colours are available on request. Screen colours are approximate, so confirm against a physical colour card.

Stock cold room panels: lower price, like-new quality

Besides new production, OGB supplies cold room wall panels from stock lots. Stock panels cost less than new panels and their quality is the same as new: the same cores, skins and joints, ready for immediate delivery.

What is in stock changes from week to week. Thickness, length, colour and quantity of each stock lot are listed in the quotation, so you know exactly what you are buying before you order.

  1. 01Lower price than new production
  2. 02Like-new condition, same specification as new panels
  3. 03Ready stock for fast delivery
  4. 04Each lot described in writing: thickness, length, colour, quantity

Where cold room wall panels are used

  1. 01Restaurants, hotels and catering kitchens: walk-in chillers and freezers for daily stock.
  2. 02Supermarkets and hypermarkets: back-of-store chillers for dairy, meat, fruit and vegetables.
  3. 03Food factories and central kitchens: raw-material stores, process rooms and dispatch chillers.
  4. 04Fruit and vegetable traders: cool rooms that keep produce fresh in UAE heat.
  5. 05Pharmacies, hospitals and distributors: 2 – 8 °C rooms for medicines and vaccines.
  6. 06Fish and meat processing: freezer rooms beside cutting and packing areas.

How a cold room panel keeps the cold in

The PU or PIR core does the insulating work, but the joints matter just as much. With cam-lock panels, hooked locks are foamed into the panel edges; turning them with a key pulls neighbouring panels tight against each other, so there is no gap for warm, humid air to enter. The joints are then sealed with silicone.

In the UAE the outside air is hot and humid for much of the year. Any leak lets moisture in, which turns into ice inside a freezer and increases energy use. Tight cam-lock joints, sealed corners and the correct thickness for the room temperature keep the refrigeration plant working efficiently.

Hygiene details that matter

  1. 01Food-safe coated or stainless steel faces that can be washed down.
  2. 02Coved (rounded) PVC or metal profiles where walls meet the floor and ceiling, so dirt cannot collect in corners.
  3. 03Silicone-sealed joints and flush door frames for easy cleaning.
  4. 04Insulated floors for freezers, finished with plywood and aluminium or stainless plate, or epoxy-polyurethane flooring.

Testing & standards

How Cold Room Wall Panels are tested

These are the test methods and standards that specifiers, civil defence and insurers ask about. Ratings belong to a specific tested system, so OGB supplies the certificate that matches your panel, thickness and joint.

EN 14509
Product standard for factory-made metal-faced sandwich panels: dimensions, strength and declared thermal values.
ASTM C518
Measurement of the thermal conductivity of the PU / PIR core.
EN 13501-1
Reaction-to-fire class of the panel; PIR cores achieve better classes than standard PU.
HACCP
Food-safety system used by food operators: it calls for smooth, washable, non-absorbent surfaces and hygienic coved junctions in cold rooms.

Questions

Cold Room Wall Panels: common questions

Do you have cold room panels in stock at a lower price?

Yes. OGB supplies cold room wall panels from stock lots at a lower price than new production, with quality the same as new. Thickness, length, colour and quantity depend on the lot and are confirmed in the quotation.

Is the quality of stock cold room panels the same as new?

Yes. Stock panels have the same core, steel skins and joints as new panels. Each lot is described in writing before you order, so you can check that it matches your project.

How thick should my cold room panels be?

As a guide: 75 – 100 mm for chillers at 0 to +5 °C, 120 – 150 mm for freezers at −18 to −25 °C, and 150 – 200 mm for blast or deep freezers at −30 to −40 °C. Room size, door traffic and product load can push the choice up a size.

What is a cam-lock panel?

A cold room panel with hooked locking devices foamed into its edges. A key turns the lock to pull two panels tightly together, giving a fast, airtight joint without screws through the panel faces.

Does a freezer room need an insulated floor?

Yes. Below 0 °C the floor must be insulated, and often heated underneath, to stop the ground freezing and heaving. Chillers above 0 °C can sit on a well-sealed concrete floor.

Can the cold room be moved later?

Cam-lock rooms can be taken apart and rebuilt because the panels are locked, not glued or screwed through. This makes them a good choice for rented premises.
